911/914 19MM MASTER CYLINDER INSTALLATION GUIDE

First of all thank you for your purchase of my 19mm master cylinder. I’m aiming this instruction guide towards the “easy” install option. I have also included the factory maintenance section that describes the removal and actual rebuild of the part. While you will not need this it’s always nice to be able to more fully understand the system you are working on.

While this is the “easy install option” it will require some attention to detail and patience, because the process will take some time and you will need a helper for the install to pump the brakes. Pre installation – some swear by bench bleeding the master prior to install. You an do this. It requires the unit to be in a vice, and have fluid coming from the top “reservoir” which can be anything you want it to be from an actual one to a coffee can. You will also need to be able to cap off and hold the fluid in the cylinder. Some additional brake line short sections could be an option here. The idea is to fill the internal cavity and eliminate any bubbles. You will have to depress the cylinder which can be dome with a screw driver carefully. Do not do more than about 1” of travel . Press it in and release slowly. Do this until you get 4-5 cycles without bubbles. Personally I find this easiest to do in the car. Once the cylinder is installed you can use some clear tubing 1/8” ID clear tubing from your local hardware store would work. Pump with the furthest caliper open 1st and work your way to the closest. It’s best to catch this in a glass bottles if you have some. Then open all the lines and top-off the fluid in the reservoir. Give it an hour checking the fluid level and topping off as necessary. Them bleed the brakes furthest to closest once again. You may have to repeat this process a time or two.

Ok the actual install – Remove the old master cylinder (see below) Be sure to note which one goes in which hole. You may even want to label. Attach the nipples to the Master cylinder (the aluminum ones provided. Assure they are tightened to the point they are snug. You can loosen the clamp on the reservoir to allow the tubes to slide down 6 inches or so. You will need to make a perpendicular cut to the plastic hose. Just right above the metal tube.

You will need to slide the new hose (which is rated for hydrolic fluid) over the plastic tubes hanging down and clamp them onto the plastic as shown.

Note that we have included anti chaffing material as an extra level of safety. We do recommend periodic inspection of the hose to assure integrity of the system.

Note the anti chaffing goes on the side closest he bulkhead. Slide the hose onto the nipples of the master cylinder and secure with clamps.

You will want to assure the pedal rod is inserted into the correct position prior to tightening the 2 mounting bolts. Proceed to tighten then bleed the system. You may need to do this several times. The gravity bleeding works well if you have the time.

Sincerely, Mark AKA Mikey914
